AI Tool Pricing Statistics 2026
The standard price for a paid AI assistant is $20 a month: ChatGPT Plus costs $20, Claude Pro $20 monthly or $17 on an annual plan, and business seats for ChatGPT and Claude both start at $20 billed annually. Premium tiers now run from $100 to $500 a month. Model prices keep falling, with Epoch AI measuring a median decline of 50x per year for equal performance, yet Menlo Ventures estimates only about 3% of AI users pay for premium services.

This page collects published prices for AI assistants, coding tools, business add-ons and model APIs, taken from the vendors' own US pricing pages and help centers, along with research on how fast AI prices are falling and how many people pay. Prices are in US dollars per month unless noted and were checked on November 4, 2026. Vendors change prices often, and several have announced increases that take effect after this date.
Consumer AI pricing has settled on a $20 entry tier with a ladder above it. OpenAI charges $20 a month for ChatGPT Plus and offers Pro plans at $100, $200 and $500. Anthropic prices Claude Pro at $20 monthly or $17 a month on an annual plan, Max at $100 and Ultra at $200. Microsoft 365 Premium, its consumer plan with AI features, costs $19.99 a month. Mistral undercuts the market at $14.99, or $5.99 for verified students. For most buyers the real decision is whether usage limits on the $20 tier are enough.
Business pricing follows the same anchor. ChatGPT Business and Claude Team both charge $20 per seat per month on annual billing and $25 monthly, with premium seats at $100. Microsoft 365 Copilot for enterprises lists at $30 per user per month, while the Copilot Business add-on for smaller firms dropped from $21 to $18. GitHub prices individual coding plans at $10, $39 and $100, and its business tiers at $19 and $39 per seat. Usage-based charges are spreading on top of seats: GitHub, Atlassian and Notion all sell extra AI credits at about one cent each.
API prices show the steepest change. Anthropic's Claude Opus 4 and 4.1 cost $15 per million input tokens; Opus 5.5 costs $4. OpenAI's smallest current model, GPT-6 Luna, costs $0.10 per million input tokens, and Anthropic's Haiku 5.5 matches it. Research confirms the trend: Stanford HAI found the cost of GPT-3.5-level performance fell more than 280-fold between November 2022 and October 2024, and Epoch AI measured a median decline of 50x per year across benchmarks. Prices do not only fall, though: Google has scheduled its Gemini 4 Argon and Gemini 3.8 Flash API prices to double, and Anthropic notes its newer tokenizer produces about 30% more tokens for the same text.
Willingness to pay lags far behind use. Menlo Ventures sized the consumer AI market at $12 billion and estimated only about 3% of users pay for premium services, with ChatGPT converting about 5% of weekly users. General assistants take 81% of consumer AI spending. On the business side, Microsoft reported more than 30 million paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seats in its fiscal year ended June 2026, against a list price of $30 per user per month for enterprises.
Consumer AI subscription prices
Nearly every major assistant sells its first paid tier for about $20 a month, so price is rarely the deciding factor at entry level; usage limits and model access are. The spread opens up above that tier, where OpenAI and Anthropic both sell plans at $100 and $200 and OpenAI now goes to $500. Annual billing saves 15% on Claude Pro ($17 against $20) and 20% on ChatGPT Business and Claude Team seats ($20 against $25). Mistral is the main lower-cost option among model developers.

AI coding assistant prices
GitHub publishes the most complete price ladder for AI coding tools. Individual plans run from $10 to $100 a month, and each tier is defined by a monthly allowance of AI credits rather than unlimited use, with overage billed per credit. Business seats cost $19, nearly twice the entry individual price. For teams the per-credit overage rate matters as much as the seat price, because heavy agent use can exceed the pooled allowance.

Credits and usage-based pricing
Vendors increasingly sell AI as metered credits on top of a base plan. The rates are converging: GitHub, Atlassian and Notion all price extra AI usage at roughly one cent per credit, or $10 per 1,000 credits. Credit plans make the headline price less meaningful, because the cost of a month depends on how heavily people use agents and long tasks. Tool calls such as web search carry their own fees in model APIs.

AI model API prices
API prices are quoted per million tokens, and output tokens cost five times input tokens for every OpenAI and Anthropic model listed here, against three times for Mistral Large. OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.1 both list at $10 input and $50 output, while the smallest models cost $0.10 input, a hundredfold spread. Prices are not only falling: Google has scheduled increases for two Gemini models, and Anthropic's newer tokenizer counts about 30% more tokens for the same text, which raises effective costs even at an unchanged list price.

Falling costs and who pays
Independent research from Stanford HAI and Epoch AI shows the cost of a given level of AI performance falling by orders of magnitude. That decline shows up in API prices but much less in subscription prices, which have held at $20 while vendors add capability instead of cutting the fee. Menlo Ventures' estimates suggest the bigger constraint on consumer revenue is conversion: a small share of users pay at all. Microsoft's seat count shows business buyers paying per user at scale.

Methodology note
Prices come from each vendor's own US pricing page, documentation or help center, fetched from the URL shown and recorded in US dollars as displayed on November 4, 2026. We compared documented prices and did not test the products. Where a vendor shows several billing options, the text states which one applies. Prices exclude tax and change often; Google has published dates for increases to two Gemini API models. Model API prices are per million tokens, and token counts differ between vendors' tokenizers, so equal list prices do not always mean equal cost for the same text. Research figures come from Stanford HAI, Epoch AI and Menlo Ventures, which use different methods and time frames. Every quote is re-fetched from the source by our checker. See how we rank and verify.
