How this ranking works

One method for every tool. We compared documented features and published prices; we did not run hands-on tests. Value carries the most weight.

ValueFeaturesEase of use

This list is for listeners comparing what music streaming costs for one person, a household or a student. We compared documented features and published prices on each vendor's own site in November 2026. Rankozo weights value at 40%, features at 35% and ease of use at 25%. Starting prices are the cheapest paid plan for one person per month in USD, and each entry lists the family and student rates where the vendor publishes them. Deezer and SoundCloud showed only zloty prices or no plans from our location, so their prices are marked pending. YouTube Music and iHeartRadio are not ranked this round because their plan pages did not load from our location, so we could not check their features on the vendor's own pages.

The verdict

Start with Spotify. It keeps a free tier, its Premium Individual plan costs $12.99 a month with lossless audio and 15 hours of audiobooks, and it sells Duo, Family and Student plans. Apple Music is $1 cheaper for one person at $11.99 and $2 cheaper for a family at $19.99, and it runs on Android and Windows as well as Apple devices. Amazon Music Unlimited drops to $11.99 for Prime members and now includes one Audible audiobook a month. For hi-res audio, Tidal and Qobuz are the specialists, and Qobuz Student at $4.99 is the lowest student rate here. Pandora Plus, at $5.99, is the cheapest paid plan if ad-free radio stations are enough.

Best forMost listeners who want the widest choice of plans, a free tier and social features like Jam and Blend.

Spotify has the broadest plan lineup in this list, which is why it ranks first for value as well as features. You can listen free with ads, or pay $12.99 a month for Premium Individual after a one-month trial for first-time subscribers. Premium Duo costs $18.99 for two people at the same address, Premium Family costs $21.99 for up to six accounts with parental controls, and Premium Student costs $6.99 and currently includes a Hulu plan for eligible students. Premium now streams lossless audio up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz, and Individual, Duo and Family plans include 15 hours a month from a catalog of over 700,000 audiobooks, though on shared plans only the manager gets those hours. Social features like Jam, which lets friends play songs together in real time, and Blend set it apart. The app runs on over 2,000 devices. The weak point is price: a family pays $2 more a month than on Apple Music or Tidal.

    • ✓Duo plan for couples at $18.99
    • ✓Audiobook hours included in Premium

Best foriPhone owners and families who want lossless and Spatial Audio at a lower family price than Spotify.

Apple Music undercuts Spotify on both the individual and family plans and includes its best audio on every tier. Individual costs $11.99 a month with the first month free for new subscribers, Family costs $19.99 and is shared with up to five people through Family Sharing, and Student costs $6.99 for up to four years with Apple TV included at no extra cost. Every plan covers over 100 million songs, offline downloads, Spatial Audio, lossless audio and free access to the separate Apple Music Classical app. Each family member gets their own library, recommendations and playlists, and lyrics show in real time. It is not limited to Apple hardware: Apple lists apps for Android, Windows, Sonos and smart TVs. People who already pay for iCloud+ or Apple TV can fold Apple Music into Apple One, which starts at $21.95 a month. The main gap against Spotify is the lack of a free tier, and the family plan depends on setting up Family Sharing.

    • ✓Lossless and Spatial Audio on every plan
    • ✓Family plan $2 cheaper than Spotify's

Best forPrime members who want ad-free music plus an audiobook each month on one bill.

Amazon Music Unlimited is the natural pick for households that already pay for Prime. The plan page states it is free for 30 days for new subscribers, then auto-renews at $12.99 a month, or $11.99 a month for Prime members. That Prime rate matches Apple Music and Tidal for one person. Unlimited covers 100 million songs ad-free and on demand, ad-free top podcasts, and HD and Spatial Audio. Its newest addition is Audible: subscribers can listen to one audiobook each month from what Amazon calls the largest catalog of audiobooks, which narrows the gap with Spotify's audiobook hours. Amazon also runs a separate Amazon Music Free tier. The main page does not list family or student prices, so check the plan options at signup if you are buying for a household. The value score assumes Prime pricing; without Prime, Apple Music and Tidal are $1 cheaper a month.

    • ✓Audible audiobook included each month
    • ✓$1 a month off for Prime members
    • ✓30-day free trial for new subscribers
    • ✕Full price without Prime is $12.99
    • ✕Family and student prices are not shown on the main plan page

Bottom line: A strong choice for Prime members, with HD audio and an audiobook each month for $11.99. Without Prime, Apple Music costs less for the same catalog size.

Best forListeners who want a large catalog and a family plan at $19.99, plus DJs who mix from streaming.

Tidal publishes one of the simplest price sheets among the services we compared. Its support center lists Tidal Individual at $11.99 a month, Tidal Family at $19.99 for up to six family members and Tidal Student at $6.99 for eligible students, so it ties Apple Music on individual and family pricing. Two extra tiers target DJs: DJ Individual at $19.99 and DJ Student at $14.49. Tidal describes itself as an artist-first, fan-centered platform delivering over 180 million songs, the largest catalog figure published by any service in this list. Eligible US customers on Individual or DJ Individual can get 25% off for 12 months through a Cash App offer, but that route skips the free trial and charges right away. Tidal notes that plans and prices vary by location and taxes, and it is available in the US and dozens of other countries. There is no free tier, which costs it points against Spotify and Amazon.

    • ✓Largest catalog figure in this list
    • ✓Family plan $2 cheaper than Spotify's
    • ✓Dedicated plans for DJs
    • ✕No free tier
    • ✕The Cash App discount cannot be combined with a free trial
    • ✕DJ plans cost much more than the standard tiers
    Individual:

    Family:
    $19.99 a month, up to 6 members
    Student:
    $6.99 a month
    Catalog:
    Over 180 million songs

Bottom line: A good alternative to Apple Music at the same $11.99 and $19.99 prices, with the biggest catalog here. DJs get plans no one else in this list sells.

Best forUS listeners who mostly play stations and want the cheapest ad-free plan.

Pandora is a different kind of service from the others in this list: it started as personalized radio, and its tiers still reflect that. The free tier lets you build stations from artists, songs and genres, rate tracks with thumbs and listen to podcasts, with ads. Pandora Plus, at $5.99 a month or $65.89 a year on the Pandora website, removes ads from stations and adds more skips and replays, offline listening and higher quality audio. That makes it the cheapest paid plan we confirmed. Pandora Premium, at $11.99 a month or $131.89 a year, adds on-demand search and play and custom playlists, matching Apple Music on price. Premium Family is $19.99 for up to six accounts, Student Premium is $6.99 for up to four years and Military Premium is $9.99. The prices come from Pandora's subscription FAQ, which notes that taxes may apply. Pandora's site told us it is unavailable in our region outside the US, and features score lower because Plus has no on-demand playback.

    • ✓Cheapest paid plan in this list at $5.99
    • ✓Annual billing lowers the monthly cost
    • ✓Military discount at $9.99
    • ✕Pandora's site is unavailable from our location outside the US

Best forAudiophiles and students who want hi-res audio at the lowest family and student prices here.

Qobuz is built for people who care about sound, and its prices are lower than many expect. Studio, the main streaming plan, starts at $10.83 a month on a yearly plan and streams lossless FLAC up to 24-bit and 192 kHz across a catalog of over 100 million tracks. Sublime, from $14.99, adds discounts of up to 60% on hi-res album purchases for people who still buy downloads. Households do well here: Qobuz Family covers up to six accounts at $17.99 a month after a free month, and Qobuz Duo costs $14.99 a month on a 12-month plan, billed $179.88, or $17.99 month to month. The student plan is $4.99 a month with no commitment, the lowest student rate in this list. Qobuz publishes weekly editorial content, works with Chromecast and AirPlay, and lets you import playlists for free through Soundiiz. Ease of use scores lower because the app is less focused on algorithmic discovery than Spotify's.

    • ✓Student plan at $4.99 is the cheapest here
    • ✓Family plan at $17.99 for up to 6 accounts
    • ✓Hi-res audio on every plan

Deezer covers the same household needs as the leaders: Premium for one person, Duo for two people who share a home, Family for you and five other users including kids, and a Student plan. Premium removes ads and forced shuffle, allows offline listening, unlimited skips and playlists, and includes built-in tools such as SongCatcher, which identifies a track that is playing nearby, and real-time lyrics. Deezer documents Hi-Fi audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz. New subscribers get one month of Premium free, and Deezer promises a reminder seven days before the trial ends, a small but useful touch. Plans can be paid monthly or annually, and gift cards come in 3, 6 and 12 month lengths. Deezer's support center notes that a Premium account plays music on one device at a time. Best forFans of independent artists, remixes and DJ sets who also want major-label tracks.

SoundCloud hosts a large catalog of uploads from independent artists, and tens of millions of tracks are free to stream. Major-label tracks sit alongside it, some free in full and others as 30-second previews. The paid plans add more. Go, aimed at casual listeners, adds ad-free listening and unlimited offline saves, but not the full catalog. Go+ adds full access to over 135 million tracks and high quality audio, and a Go+ student plan is offered where available. The DJ tier lets you mix SoundCloud tracks inside select DJ apps. Go comes with a 7-day trial and Go+ with a 30-day trial. SoundCloud says its fan-powered royalties send Go+ listening money to the artists you actually play. The company raised the Go+ price in 2026 and warns that buying through the Apple App Store costs more because of fees. What to check before you pay

01

Price the plan for your household

For one person, Tidal and Apple Music charge $11.99 a month, Pandora Premium $11.99 and Spotify $12.99. For a family of up to six, Qobuz charges $17.99, Apple Music, Tidal and Pandora Premium Family $19.99, and Spotify $21.99. Couples can pick Spotify Premium Duo at $18.99 or Qobuz Duo at $17.99 a month, or $14.99 a month on a 12-month plan.

02

Students pay about half

Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Pandora all charge students $6.99 a month, and Qobuz charges $4.99. Spotify Student currently includes a Hulu plan and Apple Music Student includes Apple TV, subject to eligibility. Apple and Pandora limit student pricing to four years, and every vendor asks you to verify enrollment.

03

Decide how much audio quality matters

Qobuz streams FLAC up to 24-bit and 192 kHz on every plan, and Deezer documents Hi-Fi up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Spotify Premium now offers lossless up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz, Apple Music includes lossless and Spatial Audio, and Amazon Music Unlimited includes HD and Spatial Audio. If you listen on earbuds over Bluetooth, the difference between these tiers is smaller than the price gap suggests.

04

Check annual billing and app store markups

Paying yearly can lower the monthly figure: Pandora Premium is $11.99 a month or $131.89 a year, and Qobuz Studio starts at $10.83 a month on a yearly plan. SoundCloud notes that subscribing through the Apple App Store costs more because of transaction fees, so buying on the vendor's website is usually cheaper.
